Ash Wednesday Service
February 18, Wed, 6PM, FPC Sanctuary
Join us for a special worship service on the evening of Ash Wednesday. We will reflect on Scripture and receive ashes on the forehead, embarking on a journey of self-reflection and renewal. (Note: This service will NOT be livestreamed.)
The name "Ash Wednesday" comes from the practice of placing ashes (in the shape of a cross) on the foreheads of believers. These ashes are typically made by burning the palm branches blessed on the previous year's Palm Sunday. The imposition of ashes serves as a symbol of mortality and repentance, reminding Christians of their need for forgiveness and spiritual renewal.
Ash Wednesday serves as a solemn reminder of human frailty, the need for repentance, and the opportunity for spiritual growth and renewal through the observance of Lent.
Ash Wednesday is also the start of our 40-Day Fast (February 18 to April 4).
Fasting awakens our spirit, sharpens our focus, and opens space for God to move in our lives. Choose an item to fast from (food, drink, or activity). Every time you feel the urge to reach for that item, let that moment become a cue to pray. It’s not just about giving something up—it’s about turning your attention to God.
