JOINING JESUS TO RESTORE AND TRANSFORM ONE ANOTHER AND OUR WORLD

A Brief History of Our Church

In 1959, First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu began holding services at the Richards Street YWCA. We moved to our first permanent home on Ke‘eaumoku Street in 1961. Our church ‘ohana continued to grow, which prompted a search for a new church campus.

After five years of prayerful searching, God led us to purchase the former Ko‘olau Golf Club in Kāne‘ohe in 2006—originally built for $120 million but acquired for $20 million through God’s provision. We paid off the mortgage in 2017.

In 2015, we joined a movement called ECO: A Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians, which has grown to over 425 churches nationwide. We remain the only ECO church in Hawai‘i.

In 2020, we launched The Vine, a second campus designed to be a mission outpost serving people in Honolulu.

In 2023, longtime Senior Pastor Dan Chun retired after nearly 30 years of service. Under the guidance of Transitional Pastor Tim Fearer, we entered a season of reflection and preparation. At the end of 2024, our Session established a diverse Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) of seven current and former Elders united in our renewed mission, values, and vision.

The PNC conducted a year-long global search and nominated our very own Christopher Pan. The congregation elected him in October 2025, and he was installed as Senior Pastor in November 2025.

Today, we continue to be grateful for God’s faithfulness and excited for the future as we take our next steps together as a church ‘ohana— joining Jesus to restore and transform one another and our world.

Our Mission

In early 2024, our Session recognized the importance of renewing our church’s mission, values, and vision to faithfully guide its next chapter. With prayer and courage, our church leadership did the work to discern and articulate a clear sense of purpose for this season of transition and beyond.

Through this process, a refreshed mission statement was introduced to our church family, answering the question what are we about?

“Joining Jesus to restore and transform one another and our world.”

Our Values

We established new values as guiding principles that support our mission. These core values answer why we do what we do and who we are as we do it.

  • PRAYER (Psalm 105:4) “Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually.”

  • HUMILITY (Philippians 2:3-5) “Do nothing from selfish ambition or empty conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves. Let each of you look not to your own interests but to the interests of others. Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus.”

  • THE GRACE AND TRUTH OF JESUS (John 1:16-17) ”From his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. The law indeed was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.”

  • COURAGE (Joshua 1:9) “I hereby command you: Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Our Vision

As we look ahead, we’re focused on becoming a church where healing is found, generations learn from one another, and love takes shape through service.

By 2030… As a Christ-centered, diverse, and intergenerational community, FPC Hawaii will be and see…

  1. A HUB OF HEALING for broken hearts, spirits, minds, and bodies, confirmed by hundreds of testimonies.

  2. Everyone in our church ‘ohana LEARNING FROM AND INVESTING IN NEW GENERATIONS, taking new steps with Jesus together.

  3. Everyone in our church ʻohana SERVING OUR LOCAL COMMUNITIES AND BEYOND

Our church is structured around our commitment to collaborative leadership, where our church ‘ohana (family) is empowered and supported to carry out our mission, vision, and values.

Church Structure

  • Our ELDERS, both men and women, govern and provide spiritual oversight, ensuring we stay true to our mission and vision.

  • Our STAFF empowers and supports the congregation by facilitating worship services, coordinating broad ministries, and managing day-to-day operations.

  • Our DEACONS focus on compassionate care, serving those in need within our church family and the broader community.

  • Together, our entire CHURCH FAMILY (congregation) shares the gospel throughout the week, bringing our mission, vision, and values into their communities as followers of Jesus.
