Family Feud Erupts in Hale Ohana
by Jeannie Edwards

Those rascally boys, the sons of Jacob from Paddan Aram are at it again. Generations of deceit, favoritism and dysfunctional love are converging to create a dramatic crisis of biblical proportions. The struggles and intrigues of this famous family will be explored during the upcoming production of Andrew Lloyd Weber's "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat."

Cast digs into Scripture
A talented cast, featuring youth from our First Presbyterian Church family as well as students from over a dozen different schools, is hard at work preparing a dynamic, entertaining and thought provoking expose' of the life of Joseph.

As the cast prepares, they are deepening their understanding of this part of Genesis and seeing the Bible come alive. According to Director, Roslyn Catracchia, some of the "brothers" are getting big spiritual insights as they live the story. One preteen observed that it took many years for Joseph's oppression to turn around and become a source of blessing. This is an important spiritual truth that even mature Christians miss in our culture of instant gratification. The enduring truth, in Joseph's words, "You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good" (Genesis 50:20), is a lesson for the audience and the cast as well.

Show puts the fun back in dysfunctional
This production of "Joseph" handles thoughtful themes in a fun and fantasy filled romp. Audience members should expect to laugh and have a good time, enjoying the wonderful score and talented cast.

A unique ministry of FPC
First Presbyterian began producing musicals of this scale after Hale Ohana became available as a venue. Shows such as last year's "Godspell" and this year's "Joseph" are a perfect opportunity to invite a friend to church. "Joseph" had something for everyone and is appropriate entertainment for the whole family, even though it deals with enduring and mature themes. The memorable music was inventive and the staging, choreography and costumes were all highlights. We're all looking forward to next year's musical--hope you are too!
