Global Impact

Welcome to Global Impact, an outreach ministry of First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu. We are thankful you are here and hopeful you will learn more about how we reach the world in the name of Jesus Christ. Our ministry priority is serving the needs of women and children, specifically in the areas of poverty alleviation and leadership development.  As part of a strategy to make the greatest impact possible we have chosen just a few countries and a small number of partners for our ministry relationships,

Poverty | Leadership

Children | Women

Bangladesh | China | Philippines | Swaziland | Thailand

We place great value on on our ministry relationships and so do our global partners, which provides for a wide variety of opportunities for you to become involved.

Poverty - we consider the condition of poverty to be a lack of hope. People living in abject poverty lack enough food, shelter, education, clean water and health care to prevent physical sickness and premature death whether it is due to ignorance or scarcity. People living in abject poverty suffer silently because they have little value or voice among their national governments.
In order to break the cycle of poverty we will identify organizations who are able to address the causes of poverty, by providing secure access to food and clean water, economic and education opportunities and programs for improved health care and disease eradication.

For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me. Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ Matthew 25:36, 40

Leadership - a ministry which focuses on leadership development looks for opportunities where leadership and ministry training will have an tangible effect on individuals, churches and ministry organizations so they can make a difference in the Kingdom.

Equip God’s people for works of service so that the whole body of Christ may be built up.  Ephesians 4:12

Children - one of the most vulnerable populations of the world.  By targeting children, we are making a commitment to reach children for Christ and break the cycle of poverty for generations to come by addressing the negative effects of poverty, hunger, gender inequality and injustice.

He called a little child and had him stand among them. And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. "And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me. But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. Matthew 18:2-6

Women - women constitute a majority percentage of the population in many countries and are most vulnerable to the problems of poverty and diseases. Reaching women for Christ has a multiplying effect because of their central position in families.

Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. James 1:27

Bangladesh - FPC has been involved in Bangladesh for many years as the sending the Church for YWAM missionaries Robert & Naomi Puyu. They are members of the church, return to Hawaii frequently to preach and teach and we are their primary source of support.

China - China is experiencing tremendous church growth  and conversion. It’s like the early book of Acts. As China dominates the business world, so China will be having tremendous influence on worldwide Christianity. A healthy global impact portfolio for a Pacific Rim church should have China, the most populated country in the world, as one of its main considerations.

Philippines -  While predominantly a Christian nation, slightly more than half of the Filipino population lives below the poverty line. The large number of Hawaii Filipino’s combined with direct flights makes this a natural connection for a number of mercy and medical mission opportunities.

Swaziland - Swaziland has the highest rate of HIV/AIDS in the world: one out of five children in Swaziland is an orphan. Our focus on Swaziland is based primarily on our relationship with Advocates for  Africa’s Children (AFAC) whose founder is an FPC Church member and seminary scholarship recipient.

Thailand - Buddhism is the dominant (94%) religion in this nation of 60 million people and our church has been focused on evangelism and mercy ministries here for decades. Our relationship with Pentecostal Assemblies of Tribes is provides us with a partner who seeks to reach Thai’s for Christ.
