The purpose of the annual meeting of the congregation is to elect elders and deacons for 2010, to elect members of the nominating committee for 2010, to vote on the terms of call for the pastors, and to hear a presentation on the 2010 annual budget. All members are encouraged to attend.
2010 Officer Bios
Jim has been part of the First Prez family since 1994. He has served on the Buildings and Grounds team, Mission to Thailand 2002, Men’s Ministry Leadership Deacon, (Moderator), Long Range Planning, (acquisition of Ko’olau), Presbyterian Golf Association and Small Groups team. He is a Commercial Construction Project Manager. Jim’s passions include his lovely wife Pam, building stuff, golf and travel.
Judy and her family have attended FPC for more than a decade. Her church activities have centered around Women’s Ministry. Professionally Judy coordinates the international programs at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. In her leisure she likes to read, or take strolls on the beach.
Karen Lee (Mrs. Sam Lee)
Karen was born in Hong Kong and raised in Boston (Go Red Sox!), schooled in Connecticut (Go Yale!), and lives in Kailua (Go Castle!). She is the wife of husband (Sam), mother of two children (Nathan & Jessica), and master of one dog (Koda). She is a VP and Operations Manager at Bank of Hawaii and has been attending FPC for the past 3 years where she has primarily been involved with Children’s Ministries. Karen loves eating, having folks over her home, and hitting up garage sales. She is humbled and honored to be considered as an elder.
Gracynn has been attending FPC for about 14 years. She was baptized at First Prez in 1997. She has participated in many of the Women’s ministry events such as the retreats, annual Bazaar and bible studies. Gracynn also attends WAKO and different classes/studies on Sunday mornings. She has served on two Pastor Nominating committees as well as participated in a small group since 1996. She works for Novo Nordisk, a Diabetes Care Company as a Diabetes Care Specialist. In her spare time she loves spending time with her children, who are now adults, cooking and baking, growing vegetables and herbs, and reading. Recently she has been learning to stand up paddle!
Don has been attending FPC for 10 years. He was the chair of the Long Range Planning committee which was instrumental in the move to Ko’olau. He has previously served on session as the chair of Building and Grounds committee. He is retired, having been a real estate developer for 25 years. In his spare time Don enjoys playing golf.
Michael was born and raised in Hawaii. He’s been a member of FPC since 1999. Currently, he produces the church’s sermon for Radio and our podcast. Michael is married with one child in college and another in middle school. Professionally, he’s a career-long broadcaster having worked in Radio and cable TV. He enjoys reading, writing, blogging, watching movies, music, keeping up with technology, and staying abreast with current events. He believes that virtually everything starts in the family. He’s been trying to eat more veggies, but it’s really difficult because his favorite food is fried chicken.
Jeff has been attending First Prez for 2 ½ years. He is a member of the Prayer Team, has been an instructor for WAKO and recently completed the Stephen Ministry training. Jeff has several Compassion children. In his professional life he is a Long Term Care insurance specialist. He enjoys macro and landscape photography.
John has been attending First Prez since 2006. Besides being active in a small group John has served as an usher and greeter, been active in WAKO and the Men’s Ministry. He is married to Cathy, and together for five years they have cared for twin pre-school godchildren on a weekly basis. Professionally, John retired as a police sergeant from city of San Mateo, CA in 2002. John’s hobbies include kayaking and snorkeling with Cathy, weekday work-outs at gym, evening barbeque and caring for their 2 Chihuahuas.
Brian and his wife Beth, daughter Megan, and son Brenton have been attending FPC for two years. Brian has been active in Men’s ministry and the budding FPC video ministry. A marathon runner, Brian is a Federal Government civilian at Camp H.M. Smith.
Has been attending FPC for a decade. She has been a leader in Divorce Care, Hospitality, Ushers/Greeters, Women’s Ministry, Singles, and the Personnel Team. For many years she served in Human Resource at the Honolulu Advertiser. Her outside passion is Sogetsu Ikebana (the Japanese art of flower arranging).
Ross has been attending First Prez since 2003. He serves on Building and Grounds Ministry. Recently he completed a mission to Swaziland, Africa. Professionally he is a Solar Energy Consultant with Alternate Energy. In his spare time he enjoys coaching swimming at Iolani School.
Jan has been attending First Prez for seven years. She is a member of the Downtown Small Group, and was blessed last year to have been a member of the mission team to Swaziland. She is an attorney with Watanabe Ing LLP, and when not working, she enjoys working on puzzles
Bob has been attending FPC since April 2008. He was raised on a farm in Nebraska where he learned to fly at 14. Bob met his wife Bertie while serving in the army in Ethiopia. She was a missionary nurse in that country. Bob became a missionary pilot with Mission Aviation Fellowship where he was assigned to Zaire. After 10 years of missionary service he returned to US and started flying charter/corporate jets. Bob sings in the choir, assembles bulletins and attends the Men’s Fellowship events.
Jim has attended First Prez for eleven years. He has served on the Community Services Committee, and also provided sitting services for the elderly. Before retiring, he first served in the U.S. Navy as a naval aviator for 22 years, and then worked for the State of Hawaii for 22 years in the Harbors Division of the Department of Transportation, and in the Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation in the Department of Land and Natural Resources. There are many fun things he enjoys, but traveling tops the list.
Deane has been attending First Prez since January 2009. He attends a small group and is involved with the Men’s Ministry events, Choir, Prayer Team, and the Children’s Christmas program. Deane is a Construction Manager, building an aircraft fueling system at Hickam AFB. For fun he works out regularly at Clark Hatch Fitness Center because he likes Kaneohe Bakery’s cherry pie ala mode too much!
Sheri has been attending First Prez since January 2009. She regularly attends a small group and has been involved in Choir, Crafts, Prayer and Newsletter mailings. She was in the chorus for The Music Man at First Prez, and was also one of many helpers for Eggstravaganza, VBS, the Bazaar and the Children’s Christmas program. Sheri currently is a housewife but was once a TV show hostess in Guam for a program called "Cooking in Paradise." Executive chefs would do the cooking. It was my job to talk and eat … I am gifted in this way.
Doug has attended First Prez for over fourteen years, and is active in the following ministries: Chancel Choir, Building and Grounds, Communion server, Sunday offering counter, Prayer Team and Singles’ Ohana leadership team. He has worked for Kaiser Permanente Accounts Payable for over 22 years. Doug sings in the Hawaii Opera theatre chorus, and is a likes to read biographies, history, and historical novels.
Pam has been attending First Prez since 1994. She regularly attends a small group and has served as the Women’s Ministry Team Moderator. Serving on the Mission Team she led her in 2002 and 2004 on mission trips to Thailand. She has also served as a Sunday School teacher, church office helper and on the Prayer Team. She is now retired from retail and enjoys making jewelry. Her passions include her husband Jim and her family, FPC, her daily walk with the Lord. Her interests are art, opera, travel and walks by the ocean.
Bruce has been attending FPC for over 10 years. He has served on the Deacons, Building and Grounds team, Prayer team, small groups and driving the shuttle vans. Professionally Bruce is a construction engineer. His spare time in spent loving and roughhousing his grandkids.
Shay has been associated with First Prez since 2001. She and her husband Dave, host a small group in their home, lead the young adult ministries at our church and belong to a parenting group. She has participated in Mighty Moms, dancing in worship services and teaching WAKO classes. By profession, Shay is a graphic designer. Her hobbies include sewing using recycled materials, Turbo Kickboxing and healthy living.
