What Is Alpha?

Alpha is an opportunity to explore the meaning of life in a relaxed, friendly setting. The Alpha course meets weekly for 10 weeks, and includes an amazing weekend getaway. At the end of the course there will be a Alpha Celebration dinner.

The Alpha course is an opportunity for anyone to explore the Christian faith.  

It’s relaxed, low key, friendly, and fun.  

There is a meal together at the beginning of each session, which gives you an opportunity to get to know each other.  

 Listen, learn, discuss, and discover. And ask anything.

Alpha is a place where no question is too simple or too hostile.

Who Is Alpha For?

Alpha is for everyone, especially:

• Those wanting to investigate Christianity
• New Christians
• Newcomers to the church
• Those who want to deepen their understanding and faith

Why attend the Alpha course?

People do Alpha for a wide variety of reasons - some want to investigate whether God exists; others are concerned about what happens after death. Some people have particular questions that they would like to discuss; others want to understand other peoples’ beliefs or would like to explore what the purpose of life is. Many have never been to church, others may have attended church occasionally but feel they have never really understood the basics of the Christian faith.

What Happens At Alpha?

The Alpha course starts at in the evening with dinner - a chance to get to know others. 

Then there is a short talk, which looks at a different aspect of the Christian faith each week. It consists of topics such as “Who is Jesus?” and “Why and how do I pray?” 

After each talk, it is followed by a time of discussion in small groups where everyone is welcome to contribute their opinion and ask questions. People usually stay in the same small groups for the duration of the course so they can get to know each other, continue discussions and deepen friendships. The emphasis is upon exploration and discovery in a relaxed and informal environment.

Here is a sample schedule how an Alpha evening looks like:

How Much Will It Cost?

There is no charge for attending the Alpha course. There is a one-time cost to purchase the ALPHA course manual. Dinner is provided and there is a calabash for you to drop off any amount you want for the food.

Will There Be Childcare?

Yes, there will be free childcare provided for children ages 6 months - 12 years old. Please let us know if you will be requiring childcare when you register for the course. You can indicate it on the registration.

When Does ALPHA Start?

The Spring Session of Alpha Course starts at First Prez on March 7, 2012 (Wed), 6:30 pm - 8:45 pm, in the Sanctuary.

The Fall Session of Alpha Course starts at First Prez on September 5, 2012 (Wed) 6:30 pm - 8:45 pm, in the Sanctuary.
